INTERTWINED *
This series of six images explores the deep connection between humanity and the natural world, emphasizing that we are not separate from our environment, but an integral part of it. Through symbolic visuals, such as flowers blooming from the mouth and butterflies covering the eyes, the work reflects the harmony, fragility, and shared life force between people and nature. The imagery serves as a reminder that protecting and cherishing the planet is inseparable from protecting ourselves, since we are all one within the same ecosystem.
I've included an image that shows the lighting setup for my greenery shoot. I used two colored gels on separate lights to layer different shades of green, which cast dramatic shadows across the model’s face, creating the illusion that she was immersed in a forest.
The photo of my model facing away from the camera is something I didn’t end up using in my final project. I had envisioned plants growing out of my model’s mouth and intertwined in her hair, as if they had naturally taken root. Unfortunately, when I went to execute this idea, nothing came together. The fake plants looked obviously fake, they wouldn’t stay in place, and the green gels cast an unflattering, almost alien glow. In the end, I scrapped this attempt and did a complete reshoot, which allowed me to create an image I truly loved and included in the final collection.
The photo beside that one is a quick iPhone picture I took while setting up the framing. Looking at the set-up out of context was cracking me up, so I had to include it!
